Pain Relief & Management

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be a powerful pain management tool.  Pain is the body’s way of alerting us to the possibility that something is wrong that needs attention, so pain is essential in our survival, therefore it shouldn’t be ignored.

Pain is physical and psychological, in the case of phantom limb pain where a limb has been amputated and yet still feels the pain this shows how the brain is capable of not just interpreting the message of pain from the body but it can initiate independently a physical pain and this can be as intense just like the pain you get from an injury.

Hypnotherapy & Pain management

Our Brain is a bit like a computer containing a central processing unit a hard drive and containing a central switchboard with wires which transmit electrical messages.  Transmitting pain and sensory messages via nerve fibres down the spinal cord to the body. 

Stress & Anxiety can make pain worse and making a difference to the intensity and frequency of the pain.  Hypnotherapy can allow you to gain control of the switchboard which control the pain sensations in the body. 

This is because hypnosis produces a pain relieving effect (analgesic) and alters a person’s brain state.  Switching on the autonomic nervous system which restores rest and relaxation turning down the pain signals.  The body has the ability to produce its own painkillers called endorphins and encephalins, which are similar to morphine and heroine. The key to increasing these is a relaxed mind and body. Good quality relaxation accelerates the body’s natural healing abilities, relieves stress and tension, leading to greater comfort and ease.
